Melvilasom-My Thought

I heard there is a Bengali novel which later adapted into a Malayalam play.Recently i saw that in 2D screen.No.not a play.it's a movie-"Melvilasam".The whole movie is shot in a single room-a court marshell room. The movie shows the court martial of a jawan who is accused for killing one of his superior officer and injuring another.Tamil actor Parthiban plays that 'Ramachandran'. Suresh Gopi enacts the prosecutor for the culprit and Thalaivasal Vijay as the main judgement officer.KrishnaKumar is the injured officer,B.D.kapur.

My +ves

                 A very good attempt
                Sincere work
My -ves

1.Though this cannot be considered as a 'negative',this is my negative.I feel that this movie is not fit for a regional langauge .Suresh Gopi's character,a Bengali laywer speaks a VERY GOOD Malayalam.B.D.Kapur is also finding it's very easy to speak Malayalam like Asokan's non-Malayali character.Parthiban's character is supposed to be a Malayali(i think),but he speaks a BROKEN Malayalam(he himself dubbed for this film). The possiblity of having a Rai,Kapur speaking Hindi is much higher than having them speaking Malayalam(OK,let's leave it.James Cameron had to send someone to Pandora to teach them English!).

2.The dialogs in the first scene, between the clerck and other armymen became a bit dramatic.

My score : 2.5/5

Spanish Masala-My Thought

90 percentage of Spanish Masala (Malayalam) is shot in Spain. For me that is the only 'difference' between Spanish Masala and other average Malayalam films.Lal Jose shot the tomato festival brilliantly or I feel so.The first half of the film has some Dileep trademark comedies and they are 'fresh' . No Suraj is here, instead Lal Jose got a man from Asianet's Comedy Stars and his performance was OK. The Australian heroin's Malayalam is not that much bad.Kunchako Boban is REALLY trying to experiment,he is the villain here-neither a 'suspense villain' nor a 'confessing villain'. HE IS THE VILLAIN,that's it!.

For the second half,I really feel it's a Malayalam version of Allu Arjun's Arya.Yes,we have a hero who sacrifice his love. But no dramatic scenes here. Here also the director needs someone drunk to tell the heroin about the love of the sacrificing hero!!.Also that 'novel writing' track was already seen in 'Pokkiriraja'.

What did I like..
            'Omanathinkal kidaavo....'
Two or three 'fresh' comedies in the first half
Ofcaurse,Spain is making a difference there.
Lal Jose tried to bring a new comedian/actor to silver screen.
Songs are not bad(Except that 'hayyo hayyayyo')
The foreign actors are not that much 'dramatic'.
What I didn;t like
The first half reminded me that I've seen a Madhavan-Geethu Mohandas movie in Tamil.
The second half reminded me that I've seen Allu Arjun's Malayalam dubbed version of 'Arya'.

Padmasree Bharat Dr.Saroj Kumar-My Thought

The movie starts with producer Babykuttan saying that Saroj Kumar is no more the man we saw in the climax of 'Udayananu tharam' but the one we saw in the peaks of the same film.OK,no problem,i didn't want to see a confessed Saroj Kumar. Then we see Saroj Kumar in a bullet capturing 'yenthiran' avtar with flames on finger tip. Then there is a aged Saroj Kumar finding very difficult to dance with teen girls. Then there is a Saroj Kumar who acts in the ads of underwares."jettikalude naadaya kuttanaatil ninn...."-i like that dialog. Saroj kumar is not the only super star, there are Vattavila jayakumar and another one(One is Hindu and one is Muslim).Vattavila got a colonel rank in army,so Saroj Kumar also wants one.

  My +ves
      Choreography of 'Kesu' song
The megastar acting for under ware brand ads
The dialogs about the associations in film industry
What's the real meaning of 'Sumbhan'.
      Fahad Fazil
      "Podaa prakasam parathunnavane..."
My -ves
Everything is a bit over-especially the megastar's press conference
Why is there a Mamtha Mohandas
       There is nothing called story
       The director
       Suraj comedy

Yeah..i agree with all those things which Sreenivasan is trying to say.But i still feel he could have tried a half-an-hour television skit!
Here's Sreenivasan talking.

Ko-Saro or the song?

Ko
cast:Jeeva,Ajmal Ameer,Karthika,Piaa Bajpai
Direction: K V Anand

Saw this tamil film recently. After seeing 'Aran' , the tamil version of Malayalam movie,'Kirtichakra', i didn't see any Jeeva movies. But i heard this is a good one, so i borrowed the CD from my friend.Ofcaurse,it's a good one.I heard that K V Anand was the cinematographer of Priyadarsan's Mohan Lal-Sobhana starrer 'Thenmavin Kombath'.As wikipedia page says,Ko is a political thriller.

At one point,Piaa Bajpai's character,Saro is killed by Villain(suspense). The hero(her close close best friend) and the heroine(her best friend) are weeping now. This make the light hearted audience to weep/cry with them.Suddenly we see the hero and heroine singing and dancing in some foreign location leaving the audience alone to weep!!.They put aside their sorrows and took a break to sing a duet and came back for the 'revenge'. Does anyone ordered for a song there? I don't know..May be a blah blah shot??
A short break...!!

Malayalam films 2011-English Mania

I'm here not speak about the English Movies to DVD to Malayalam movies in 2011.There is another topic.
Wikipedia has a list of Malayalam films released in 2011.
Here's a list of noted Malayalam films.
Adaminte makan abu,Traffic,Melvilasom,Beautiful,Indian Rupee,Salt N' pepper,City of God,Chaappa kurish

Did you notice anything? Malayalam director Siddique needs a special mention here. All his films, from Ramji Rao Speaking to Bodyguard, have English titles!.Among the above listed Malayalam films,  only three have a Malayalam title!

Traffic - it's OK.Finding another name for this movie is a difficult task.I wouldn't say they should have used 'gathagatham' or something like that..Traffic is already a 'Malayalam' word.right?

Beautiful - It's a beautiful movie.No doubt.They could find a Malayalam name.

Indian Rupee -Don't want 'Bharatheeya rupa'.But atleast, 'Indian rupa'?

Salt N' pepper - Easily 'uppum mulakum/molakum'.For me it would have been a good one.OK, there may be a lack of 'standard' in Malayalam?

City of God- no idea..

Let's take a look at other films

Not out-bowled out in the first ball!

Race-what is the name of its parent.Race?

Lucky jokers-no idea..

The Train- 'theeeevandi' if you want a direct translation

Uppukandam Brothers Back in Action- longest English title of this year?

Three Kings -inspired from 3 idiots?

Teja Bhai & Family- proverty of Malayalam language at it's peak?

Doctor Love- Doctor is a familiar word. Love is familiar. But this is 'combined'.

Sandwich-no Malayalam translation since it's not a Malayali breakfast like appam/putt.

Happy Durbar- No idea..

Below are more films. Are they English words?
The metro

makeup man
Seniors
Maharaja Talkies
Violin
Collector
Sevenes
Sarkar Colony
Koratty Pattanam Railway Gate(Half malayali)
My Dear Kuttichathan 3D(again a half malayali)

Khaddama  is neither Malayalam nor English. What about Mohabbath?

There is a manglish title also Payyans.

But I really think that most of these non-Nalayalam titles are better thn some Malayalam titles like 'Raghuvinte swantham Raziya

Anyway i hope they will give an English-Malayalam dictionary with the movie tickets in future!
